  • G400 and no TechDemo (2nd try, SORRY Haig) - BB`s please help!

    Hi,

    aaeehhmm, I feel awful about it but I posted the wrong file (thanks Steve C). Haig needed the cfg-file. :-))

    I think the best is to sum up the former thread in short again:

    " ... tried to get the TechDemo running for a few hours. The Demo starts, menue is o.k. and if I try to start the demo itself, it starts loading and stops at about half the way !! At first tried to start it at different resolutions and colour depths (from 640x480 - 1024x768 with 16 to 24 to 32 Bit). Nothing helped. Now tried to modify the TechDemo`s cfg.file. Changed to 800x600 with different settings of rendering depths. Then I set my AGP aperture size from 256 MB to 128 MB to 64 MB. Nothing changed. OS is fresh installed after format C: ! But Colin McRae for example runs fine. My Aperture Size now is 128 MB again and desktop is at 1024x768 @ 16Bit."

    So far so good. Now for the cfg-file you needed Haig:

    // Matrox G400 TechDemo Config

    scene_name A

    relations_path data
    database_path data

    // mouse sensitivity on free fly mode
    mouse_sensitivity_h 0.03
    mouse_sensitivity_v 0.03

    // set this to 0 to skip the menu
    run_menu 1

    // sound on/off
    sound 1

    // in a multimonitor/card system you can set this one to 3 to use the other card
    device 1

    // resolution
    screen_resolution 640 480

    // 0 = high colour, 1 = true colour
    render_depth 1

    // 0 = 16bit, 1 = 32bit
    zbuffer_depth 1

    //fairy lighting tweaks
    fairy_colour_r 3 2 1.0
    fairy_colour_g 1 4 0.4
    fairy_colour_b 5 3 1.5
    fairy_radius 0.2 1.5 2.0

    // you can use this to rescale the textures at loading time
    texture_scale 1.0

    // name of the log file
    log_filename matrox.txt

    End of file.

    Sorry again for my little mistake. Hopefully all of you (and esp. Haig) show up again so we get the TechDemo to run.

    Greetings

    Hi MK,

    change the following line:

    // you can use this to rescale the textures at loading time
    texture_scale 1.0

    to:

    // you can use this to rescale the textures at loading time
    texture_scale .5

    Does it help?

      Hey, talking about the tech demo...

      It is possible to display the FPS?
      If yes, how?

        Hi Haig,

        cool you are here. Didn`t expect you to answer this fast ! Will try what you said and will be back here in a few minutes.

        Steve C - reinstalled DirectX6.1 (eng) over the existent version (also 6.1). Didn`t help. :-((

          Hello Haig,

          now the demo loads up to 80% and then jumps back to the menue. While loading the message "info: the demo is running with down-scaled textures. increase system ram to see it in all its beauty" is displayed.

          Whooaa ! 128 MB is not enough system ram ?

          Greetings

            Picky game

            So much for that idea. Goto your cmos setup and see if your AGP texture size is set to 32m.

            Does this help?

              Haig - tried to run the demo with down-scaled textures at 256, 128 & 32 MB Aperture Size.
              (Hope that you meant the "AGP Aperture Size" in my Award Bios with "32MB textures".)

              That didn`t help. :-((

              Could it be that the card is defect ?

                  Hi MK, just wanted to tell you that you're not alone with this problem.

                  When I try to run the techdemo, it loads all the way to 100 %.... And then skips back to menu. And I have installed the 5.13 drivers and the new 1.5 BIOS.

                  I have a G400 SingleHead 16 Mb running on a 333 MHz K6-2 with 64 Mb RAM.

                    I also had problems with the Tech Demo when I first got my card, but I can't remember exactly what the symtoms were (hey it was way back in early July OK).

                    But I do know that I had to "disable dualhead" in order to get it to work.

                      Hi,

                      I also have this problem with my 16MB OEM G400 - am about to try the usbsupp.exe hint from another post & also different AGP apertures ( so far works _below_ 64 MB )

                      Will report back

                      Cheers

                        I had exactly the same problem. I changed the AGP Aperature from 128MB to 64MB and it went from stopping halfway through loading to working like a dream.
